To begin this project, we look at artworks from the abstract artist Wasilly Kandinsky. We discussed his paintings as well as what abstract art looks like. After our discussion, students began to create their abstract design for their paintings using different types of shapes. When the drawings were finished, it was time to paint! For these paintings, students were only allowed to use one color plus tints and shades of that color. The paintings turned out beautiful!

After completing their Bad Hair Day artworks, 4th grade continued their work with the human face. This quarter students have been practicing drawing faces showing different emotions. Students completed a printmaking project by carving their image of an emotional face into a piece of linoleum. They then completed two prints of their images and mounted them on colored paper. The results look amazing! Great job 4th grade!
4th grade students have just finished their bad hair day artworks, and they are all definitely having a bad hair day!! Students learned about face proportions and features while creating their artworks. They filled the hair of their artworks with different types of lines and patterns. The finishing touch was to trace the projects with Sharpie markers.
