Students are currently learning about primary and secondary colors and how to mix primary colors to create secondary colors. Students created a paper weaving using cardboard and scrap paper. Once the weavings were finished, it was time to paint! Students painted some of their weavings with primary colors and mixed their own secondary colors to paint the rest! Once these are finished, they are going to look great!

2nd grade students looked at some of the first art examples that we have on earth: cave paintings/drawings! We looked at the types of animals that were drawn and talked about how paint and brushes were made to create the artworks. After practicing their drawing skills, students chose animals to draw for their cave art. We then used chalk pastels to color them. We finished off the cave art projects by spraying the student’s hands with paint to leave an outline of their handprints on their papers!
2nd grade students looked at and discussed different types of masks that are made and used all over Africa. Students then created their own masks, from construction paper, using the African masks as inspiration.
2nd grade students have been learning about positive and negative space by creating pumpkins! We first looked at and discussed the difference between positive and negative space in an artwork. Students then began to create their pumpkins! This is a fun lesson for students to complete around Halloween! The pumpkins look great 2nd Grade!
2nd Grade has just finished their geckos on banana leaves. Students looked at different types of geckos and discussed the various patterns they saw on the gecko’s bodies. They then drew their own geckos and had to fill their bodies with at least five different types of patterns. The final step for the geckos was to draw a large leaf for them to rest on. I can’t wait to see all of these geckos displayed in the hallway soon!
